Not bashing gaited horses -- but I have definitely seen horses spook when a
gaited horse comes tolting (we have a bunch of Icelandics here) or doing the
running walk thing up behind them. My friend rides a QH who absolutely
FREAKS out when approached from the rear by a gaited horse who is moving
fast. BTW that Quarter Horse can out jig any Arab I've ever met. I am lucky
to have 3 Arabs who have great dispositions. Two of them are confirmed
non-jiggers (one is a baby, so don't know yet about him), rarely spook and if
they do its usually just that startle in place thing. They willingly cover
the miles for me. As far as trail horses I've seen more good Arabs on the
trail than any other breed. A good horse (no matter what breed) is priceless.
