ENDURANCE TRAINING QUERY?
First off, as most of you are aware, I do not
participate in endurance, although I find the sport itself interesting, from a
stamina training point of view, as much of it can be related to my fitness
programme for eventing.
Recently, I had a chat to a friend of mine who
runs a livery yard which is primarily oriented to showjumping, with the odd DQ
thrown in. She said that she had a client who contacted her to board his
three endurance horses. He indicated to my friend that, as he was out of
town "a lot", part of his requirements would be that his hroses be
lunged for two hours per day.
Well, I platzed!!!! My immediate reaction was : no, this is wrong, this is not
endurance training, and it is bad for the joints for a horse to work on a circle
for that long. Can anyone shed any light on this? Am I missing
something? Surely to God this can't do anything but damage the horse's
joints and build up the wrong musculature?
Looking forward to hearing from you
all.
