That might've been me. :+) I'm including in that amount, what I pre-load
and post load. When I did Death Valley on Rocky (4 days, 200 miles), he
did indeed get a total of about 4 pounds of electrolytes alltogether. Of
course, not all during the actual ride. I preloaded him up pretty good,
and then kept giving him electrolytes for awhile after the ride was over
too (a day or two, basically just to finish up the leftovers).
I figure each of my syringes contains about 1.25 to 1.50 ounces of
electrolytes (and ..50 to .75 ounce of probiotic, the rest is
applesauce). I dose a couple of hours before the start, and everytime the
horse drinks. Then post ride, we were dosing every 2 hours (till nobody
was left conscious to do it each night <G>). Everytime I would dose, I
also would walk the horse and he would drink. I don't know if I would have
kept dosing like I was if he hadn't of been drinking (and peeing) so well.

Did they ever determine what specific electrolytes were out of balance?
