There's cruelty in every sport, Bette.  It comes down to people seeking
self-gratification through winning, as opposed to the thrill of simply being
with your horse.  It's not always even about money, I guess.


There's a dressage rider over here who apparantly works her horse in draw
reins for an hour at home (illegal at shows), box the horse to a show, get
on and clean up.  And there's a show jumper who literally ties his horse's
noses to their chests while they're in the stable, to "build their
top-lines".  You can report these cases, but without proof, can do nothing.
Also, these riders are at the top of their sport, so who's gonna believe
you.
