Re: Beet Pulp

Hi Karla,
I think it would be well worth you while to check archives of Ride Camp
about this issue. Just recently there was much discussion about just what
you are asking. In short, it is the consensus of opinion that it is better
to feed wet. (I feed so sloppy wet that it is almost a thick broth. I add a
bit of rice bran for flavor and the horses LOVE it. It's also a good way to
get water into your horse). I have tried both the shredded and the pelleted
and I much prefer the pelleted. It seems to have better color and flavor.
(yep, I tasted it. Kind of like wet cardboard). The advantage of the
shredded is that it will hydrate in about 15 minutes. The pelleted will
hydrate in about a half hour. Hot water seems to speed up the process. But
when you mix it, go easy. A little goes a verrry lonnng way. As an after
thought, my horses would not eat it when I first introduced it to them. So I
backed off and added just a very small amount with their most favored rice
bran. Adding a little more beet pulp each day got us to the point where they
gobble or slurp it up with gusto. Good luck with the effort.
Pat
