Correct. Amenorrhea is a side effect, which many women like, with the depo
injection. It does not always occur within the first 3 month period, however,
but may take 2 or 3 injections before this side effect does occur. And for
some women it may not occur at all- there may be a period of bleeding prior to
the next injection each 3 months, there could be intermittent spotting which
occurs with no discernable pattern, and occasionally a woman will bleed
heavily. Those last should not use the depo. You should get info from your
physician or family planning agency if interested, and feel committed to trying
depo as a form of birth control since it will take several months to stabilize
whatever side effects it will give you. But you are right about many women
having amenorrhea. Kim Black
