Thought I would give you a quote from the USET Team Talk Newsletter. I thought it was quite revealing.
 
USOC Basic Grants
...To be eligible for this grant, a rider must be actively training towards the next Pan American or Olympic Games, and their income must not exceed $125,00 (joint income not to exceed $250,00)
 
One must feel sorry for those people who do not do endurance!
