Start late! Make sure there will still be someone to take your number and see 
that you start (just ask at the ride meeting). Then start with the calm 
horse. I watched people start the Old Dominion 100 late. Some horses use more 
energy from freaking out in the mass start than they do making up the 5 
minutes.
