Running with a dog would actually be more risky... lions perceive them as
easier prey.  You are much more likely to get stalked if you've got a dog
along.

Besides, my chances of getting attacked by another *hiker* are vastly higher
than actually getting stalked by a lion.  Now THAT'S a good reason to bring
a dog!

And you are right.  As far as I know, all the trails in Sabino Canyon are
closed to dogs.  In fact, it's a $50 fine.  I do have three dogs and it
would be nice to take one of them along for the company and exercise.  But
no can do in lots of areas around here.
