Char, read your recent posts in the archives (as I cannot keep up with Ridecamp).  I just have to say there are a lot of good reasons why some people have not done the Tevis.  I think there is something to be learned from them too.  (And as you saw, many of them are also very experienced.)  I wish you good luck in meeting, as you put it, your "high" goal.
