My gelding is good about crossing water (unless the footing is bad, when his
instinct for self-preservation kicks in).  But he will not step over narrow
ditches or streams of run-off water -- he insists on jumping them.

Why does he perceive a long, narrow (6"-10" wide) stream of water
differently than either a creek or a puddle?
