RE: Re:Cobre Ridge 25
Donna, I've done this ride the last two years but will probably pass this
year so we won't meet -- this time (did a 50 last weekend and another next
weekend, so giving the pony a break). As for what to expect:
Very nice people managing the ride, they usually have a homemakers group of
some sort from town provide a great awards meal, you should enjoy it.
Terrain is hilly and VERY rocky. Don't attempt it without pads or EZboots.
There is a fair amount of trail on dirt roads (but no traffic on these
roads). You're within spittin' distance of the Mexico border. Seriously,
it's not recommended that you ride alone - find someone to buddy up with,
there is always a possibility of contact with illegals crossing the border.
Depending on if you're doing the 25 or 50: 25: mostly hills, beautiful
views, lots of vegetation (trees by God in southern Arizona!), the 50 has
the same higher elevation stuff plus a pretty big loop out into the lower
rangeland which is mostly open with rolling hills.
We are having unseasonably warm weather, expect mid-40's at night and
mid-90's daytime (it's an early start so you'll escape the worst of the
heat).
Hope this helps, enjoy!
Kerry
