Considering that most endurance races are held on public land that can be
closed  to other activities only by the land manager who in most cases will
not do so (and be unable to without extensive public hearings), it is not
only unreasonable but illegal for race management to bar others from the
course. Now what the liability is for this situation is a different
question. It might be the very act of holding an endurance race is
negligent - scary thought.
