I'm not sure beet pulp is any safer, but, for me, the why not of alfalfa
cubes is that when dead rodents get ground up in the cubes (as sometimes
happens), you may not be aware it is in there, but the resulting botulism
kills the horses. Happened in the Los Angeles a few years ago--several
horses died before they figured out the cause.
