I guess it depends on what one's goals are whether to join the AERC or not.
 If someone is just starting out and unsure of those goals, joining your
regional or state organizations may help you make that decision.  I belong
to UMECRA and GLDRA and find they have some great mileage and award
programs also as well as being a little more localized, being able to find
members nearby, etc.  Something to think about!
