I have a Class B license
and drove a International 4700, 32ft long Rollback Tow Truck for a year. I
have hauled with a truck on the flatbed and a horse trailer on the back.
If your vehicle is set up properly there is no reason why you should not be able
to see the vehicle you have in tow. The side mirrors on the vehicle should
extend outward enough to see the vehicle in tow, there are mirrors specifically
designed for just these purposes. Those who choose to haul blind are not
being safe. Also remember to haul anything safely the vehicle should be
able haul the weight that you have in tow. This information is found in
the vehicle specifications. Many vehicles can also be adapted to haul,
i.e. heavier rear end, different gear ratio, transmission etc.. I do
however recommend that if you are new to driving a large vehicle of any kind you
take the time to feel out the vehicle first, turning radius etc.., and then when
your ready practice with the trailer attached empty of course. Taking your
time and making sure the vehicle and trailer are set up properly will ensure
your safety, your horse's safety and the safety of others on the
road.
