competition age

Hi everyone,

My gelding will be 5 in May, but the ride season starts in April.  He 
is fit and ready for slow 50's, but do we need to wait for his actual 
birth date before competing in one?   Does AERC look at their actual 
birthdate?
I'd sure hate to have it not count because of a technicality.
