With fresh spring grass which is wet after a little rain or heavy due with
thin layer of mud, riding with easy boots (or equithotics either) is like
riding on ice. This can be the normal conditions in the East, especially in
the spring. Shoes dig in with few problems other than throwing, dirt,
mud and
grass on the rider behind you.
