that the rest of civilization seemed to be in good shape, I thought how
silly the empending disaster, doom and gloom folks must feel right about

Having given considerable thought to all the "gloom and doom" predictions,
I've come to the conclusion that the warnings are the reason for nothing
happening. So many people I talked to decided to stay close by home in case
..... That nothing serious happened may be a result of many people staying
home and not being out on the road, at parties (drinking) or whatever. We had
a great New Year's Eve in our community .... a potluck dinner, burying a time
capsule (whoever unearths it in 2099 is going to find some really interesting
stuff), and train rides on the Swanton Pacific Railroad, followed by train
whistles blowing and fireworks glowing at midnight. Lots of fun!
