    La Fiesta de Tropillas

It is a two-day festival in it's 23rd year. The horses, the tropillas, are transported from around the region to the site of the festival, in the town of Loberia. There was a huge grassy field, filled with horses, trailers, tents, trucks - surrounded by improptu camp kitchens (asadors and parillas - grills and ovens) - shops - tiendas - for selling horse tack, gaucho clothing, knives, matte cups, rustic jewelry, leather and silver - artesanos Argentine, ...

Haras Las Cortaderas and the Gauchos

Well - what luck! I'm totally fascinated by the horses of Argentina, the Gauchos, the history of the pampas. Las Auracarias are nut bearing pine trees with short scaly leaves (looking more like cedars, but actually in the Pine family). The native Mapuche people in the mountain region of northwest Patagonia depended upon these nuts for part of their diet.

Testing, Testing - Back in Pinamar

Sitting at a cyber cafe in Pinamar. I'm at one table with a glass of vino tinto, John's at another table with a cup of coffe...

Just spoke with Miguel -the horses are due to arrive any minute, but too late in the day to ride. So we'll ride tomorrow. He has a zillion horses from his Haras - San Andres de Moro - entered in this ride I think - he will ride one, I will ride one, his son in law Pablo will ride one, trainer Hugo will ride, Hugo's son Hugito and daughter Ana Lia will ride.
