Hi Patti,
Can you give us little more to go on...his registered name or some
closeup ancestors...his personality...what they called him before.
Naming a horse is such a personal thing and so dependent on the
individual. It also reflects the potential you see.
Matthew Mackay-Smith always took the registered name and did about two
or three generations of free-association to come up with the nickname,
often whimsical.
His most famous transmogrification, with the Arabian gelding Atizer,
went something like this:
Atizer to Appetizer to Hors d'Ouvre to Horse Doover and finally just
plain Doover
Then there was Jack of Hearts, who became Watson (forgot how he got there)
Al-Marah Royal Fool became Jester (nice horse, I leased him for a while)
His last horse was another AM horse he called Rugby but I forgot the
registered name
Have fun with your new friend,
Bobbie
