When we moved up here last year (Idaho -just over a mile high) My
father in law, who is 80 and farmed/ranched a great deal of his life
with horses, was absolutely shocked that I put water with a heater out
for our horses in the winter.
He said they had never, ever watered horses in the winter, that they
would eat snow. And that was with temps getting as low as -50 degrees.
they never lost any horses, even the big draft ones, so I guess they
must have been used to it.
Mine still get heated water <G>
