Have you noticed from the many postings that people, who have a great deal
of experience with horses, are very concerned for your safety.  If you
haven't noticed please do, because it's true.  Your situation is scary.
It's like driving a car that sometimes has no brakes or steering but you'll
never know when it will occur.  Not only is rearing a danger but running
back to the barn whenever the notion strikes can get you badly injured.  He
would rather be with his buddies or not working than to be with you.  And,
he has alread proven he doesn't respect you.

I used to have your level of bravery and told many people that when my
horse would runaway "I can ride faster than he can run."  I spent three
year in the paratroopers and was invincible.  Instead of retraining my
horse when the problem first occured I let him take advantage of me once
too often and now I have two stainless steel lag screws 3" x 5/16" holding
my right knee together.   If that horse is the love of your life and has
all of the potential you believe he has, you need to invest time retraining
him or re-evaluate your beliefs about him.  Realize that potential and
ability are not the same thing.  It took me a year of hard work to get my
incorrigible, spooking, runaway, to pay attention to me.  Even now when he
spooks for only a second I hear myself saying, "Here we go!"  I, like so
many others don't want you to get hurt when it isn't necessary.  Bob
