Re: RC: Fw: Riding Pregnant Mares
Joan,
I rode my 6 yr old in-foal mare until she was into her 10th month. I tried
to get at least 15 miles a week on her as I didn't want her to completely get
out of shape as I intended to continue her CTR career after the foal. I did
slow down as she got rounder & rounder. When the foal started kicking so
hard that I could feel it thru the cantle, I felt sorry for her & stopped
riding.
She had a big strong healthy foal at 352 days & was back out on the trails in
about 2 weeks, & back into competition in 5 months.
She had free access to a 5 acre pasture, and so got a lot of walking around
even when I stopped riding.
Good luck!
Nancy & Tempo (all grown up, and 1 big healthy boy!)
Md
