Hey everybody, I took my new horse on a ride last night and we had a
BLAST! We bought her as a family horse, but I think that she has
potential to do endurance.  She's a TWH and she run-walks at 13 mph, when
she's not being pushed.  

Last night, we just went around our country block (4 miles).  We stopped
to chat with a neighbor for about ten minutes, and then *tried* to go
past the local hog farmer's place without an incident.  Luckily, the
horse is silky smooth even at a dead, run-away gallop.  [BTW, that whole
circle thing to control your horse isn't as easy to do as it sounds.] 
Anyway, she settled down nicely and after a few more attempts, she went
on down the road.  

Also, I tried the suggestion of pretending to be out of control on the
road to get the cars to give me a little more room and it worked
beautifully.  

So, we finished the four miles at little over 30 minutes and Special's
respiration was completely normal, and the only sweat on her was under
the saddle.  Yeaaaaa!  We're going on a longer ride tomorrow and I can't
wait.
