Of course it's an old debate, but as for cell phones in competition, I firmly
believe that they should be OFF and in one's fanny pack, for EMERGENCY USE
ONLY. And likewise, on the trail, any use of a cell phone when moving is
just as distracting as using one in heavy traffic--it takes a part of you
away from your horse and what is happening around you, and becomes a
potential CAUSE of an accident instead of a supposed safety device. Either
way, leave the bloomin' thing OFF unless you are stopped and/or have the
emergency for which you are carrying it on your horse to begin with.
