Cell Phones - Communication Headaches
Dear Ridecampers,
I have had - and carried on my person, not the horse - a cellphone for two (2)
plus years now. I have ridden in terrain - from the very low to the very high -
and experienced "several" types of problems with reaching out and touching
someone. Unless a person resorts to carrying a three (3) watt battery pack
version - which is cumbersome and unweildy - the maximum power "any" of these
phones has is a 1/2 watt - .6 to be exact - which oftentimes results in not
enough "strength" to reach out and grab the waves up above. Also, a person runs
into scenarios like; "no" towers nearby and/or "guess what?" telephone companies
that don't have mutual agreements allowing the use of each other's towers!
Namely AT&T and Southwestern Bell. But alas, until something better comes along,
I put up with it because I have had a "few" instances where I "really" needed
that phone and it paid off. My contract with AT&T has expired and I would be
"very" appreciative if anyone out there knows of any recent changes/advances in
technology that are available - without being cost prohibitive - to us?
Thank you, Ruth Abair
