Not good in mud!  I horse I board came in with them and it took only a week
or 10 days of his moving around in a muddy paddock to work the mud between
the insert and the plate.   The plate was damaged by this, and the insert
twisted and began tearing.  The whole mess had to be pulled and the owner
saw the light and had him reshod in conventional iron shoes!  Probably best
for special (no mud) rides.  That made me wonder how they would be in 50-100
miles of sand.  Anyone know?
