fracture

We just had our horse examined yesterday because on the last ride we went
to she was perfectly sound until check-out and then was Grade 2 on the
right front.. He had us trot her out, then trot-out with flexion test,
then he blocked her ankle and then her foot. She went almost sound when
blocked in the foot. He then took pictures and his diagnosis is that she
(and I hope I have all these terms right) has a fracture on the extensor
process of the coffin bone...you could barely see anything on the xray
except a tiny dark spot...it's not in the middle but a bit to the side.
He gave her a steroid shot in the joint and suggested waiting about a
week-and-a-half and then light riding her to see how she does. He said
this could have happened quite a while ago, not just on the ride. He also
said to keep her toes rolled, that the Sneakers we were using on the front
were fine but not to let her get long...maybe even 4 to 6 weeks only
between shoeings. He said he hoped she would be fine. Have any of you out
there had any experience with this type of injury? Would a product like
GlucoMax or FlexFree help? Or is there anything else we can maybe do with
this injury? We live in a really rural area and I think our vet is really
good but just thought there might be some more experience with this.
Thanks...Betty in Colorado
