Hi Claudia,
I was on a ride this past weekend, and rode with a woman who used a
piece of rope to get the water off her horse.  The rope was about  1 1/2
feet long and she held it by both ends and firmly wiped it over the
horse. It worked very well, and was easy to carry and no great loss if
she did drop it.
