Fear

All of the advice and perspectives relating to fear have been interesting
and I believe, right on target. I think fear is just like pain in that we
all have different tolerance levels but in the end both fear and pain can
be our friends. They keep us in check, by cautioning us to not injure
ourselves further or even get ourselves killed.

Fear is normal but what we do for fun sometimes is questionable. Starting
when I was 18, I spent 3 yrs. jumping out of airplanes and I was very much
afraid of heights. Three years and 17 jumps later I was still fearful of
heights. I don't know if jumping out of a perfectly good airplane is normal
but I believe the fear of doing it is. The same holds true when we ride
some of the horses/mules we get on, it may not be what most folks would
call normal but our fear of doing it is.

People who don't fear, scare me. As I get older I get more fearful, life
becomes more important. I guess that's why the army always drafted 18 year
olds instead of 30 year olds. It appears the younger we are the more
willing we are to risk ourselves. Listen to your fear, it is trying to
teach you something that you don't know.
