green horse turning yellow!
Michelle, I too have a horse that has shy kidneys. A couple of years ago,
out of frustration and concern that he shouldn't hold it for that long, my
vet gave me a dose of Lasix to give him at home. One afternoon, I gave him
the lasix (IM because I'm not practiced enough to do IV) and hand grazed him
till he COULDN'T hold it anymore. He was practically crossing his legs. I
finally compromised and took him into the tall grass (as opposed to the mowed
yard) and he immediately relieved himself. After that, I had to remember to
take him for a walk in tall grass whenever I thought he needed to go. He's
still a little reluctant to "go" in public but not to the same extreme.
I would be interested in anyone else's solution to this difficult problem.
Good Luck
Sallie and Matty
