California fires
Your story was chilling and I am thankful you are all safe, with unburned
home to boot. Down here in Marin -- 150? 200? miles south of you, we
can step out of our home and smell the fire, with our skyline obscured by
drifing smoke. Our oldest son is a licensed helicopter pilot up in
Oregon, he fights fires with the Bambi Bucket at the end of the longline
and it's scarey. Thank you for taking the time to put your words of
wisdom on Ridecamp. Your point about "defensible space" around your
buildings is right on target, as is having your own electric generator
($450. will get you a good one) with transfer switch. Another thing is,
we replaced our highly flammable cedar shake roof with Hardishake, which
is lightweight and absolutely non-burnable. Ask not for whom that
siren is wailing...it wails for YOU.... Regards, Connie B
