The earthquake of 1812 formed Reelfoot Lake in northwestern part of
Tennessee. The Mississippi River flowed backwards for days and filled
Reelfoot. That quake was felt all the way to the New England states where it
caused church bells to ring.
I do not take our lack of siesmic activity for granted in these parts. The
New Madrid fault is more dangerous than anything they can dish out in
California.
