Except that a single, big, race on a particular type of
terrain is slanted towards horses that are used to racing
on *that type of terrain*.
Why did USA East do so well at PAC? Reportedly because the race
conditions were similar to what they are used to: sandy, humid, etc.
In the same way, horses that do well on tough footing, mountain
rides, might not so do well on a flat sprint run against the horses
from the SE that are used to that type of ride.
I think the country is too big, and the variations too wide
for a single National Championship ride to be a true reflection
of "who's the best".
(although it'd still be damn good fun to do it anyway <g>).
