Re: FOUR-POINT SHOEING
John:
My farrier here in Texas started using the four point
shoeing/trimming method this year, and I have been very pleased with the
results. We experimented with my playday horse who had long toes and
underslung heels. I needed to put shoes on him because of a worsening
crack that had not responded to the traditional "notch" above the
crack. Within two shoeings, this horse was standing correctly with a
nice heel front and rear and the crack was gone. My only caution is that
you study up on this method and be sure you understand what the farrier
will be doing, as it seems backwards at first when he begins trimming
away the toes.
My new distance horse will be shod using this method.
For more information you can write to Larry Gould, who subscribes to the
NATRC list....trailriding@cwa.com
Larry is a distance rider and farrier. He started doing his own horses
years ago because there were no good distance farriers in this area. He
has several clients who use the four point method. I'm sure he would be
glad to communicate with you.
