Great Angie!!! The innimitable Angie way of seeing things!!
I am also a featherweight and tried all of the above!! The 20 kg saddle with
weights moulded around the cantle and pommel worked great for the horse -
but not me!! Picking up 20 kg's onto a 15 hh horse (by a height challenged
individual) is no fun- also wait until your horse does a violent spook with
a top heavy saddle!! Then tried the other idea of weights on me---- couldn't
walk by VC 2 !!!. Drinking water at my age with childbearing bladder is NO
joke either- bushes are few and far between and riding in wet jodphurs when
straining to control a strong horse is also no option!!
Best ideas soo far was having a saddle made with about 6 kg's extra moulded
into the tree - and then having attached pockets on the saddle with weights
in ,which can be dettached before unsaddling and resaddling. Just had to
make sure the weights were sitting around the thigh -roll area back and
front so saddle was more balanced. Absolutely has to be a perfect fit saddle
for that horse as well, otherwise big sore back problems..

Cindy Budler
