Hi Liz,

As I understand it, the ideal is for the toe and heel angles to be parallel,
and the slope of their angle should match the slope of the pasterns AND the
shoulders.  While it is probably correct that the shoulder angle is likely
to be more constant than the pastern angle (as your shoer says-pastern
angles may be altered by hoof trimming), the overall goal is for hoof,
pastern and shoulder angles to be the same.
