fetlock or stifle
I agree with Maggie that this sounds like stifle. Years ago I had an adult
horse come up with this. I was also told this is more common in younger
horses and yes, they do outgrow it in many cases. Mine was an injury from
a kick. The problem is the tendon that runs over the *kneecap* and fits in
a grove (the stifle is like a knee joint) slips out of the grove and gets
hung up. It then slips back into the grove and everything is fine.
Problem is you can be trotting or walking for that manor down the trail and
have it happen. Scarey. To add to the problem, the tendon is no long
attached in the grove and that will not change. We did have the surgery -
it was minor. They go in a clip that tendon down lower in the leg and they
do both legs so the horse is even behind. That tendon is not necessary and
the joint can work ok without that. It was a total success with our horse
and he went back to the show ring and had a very long, productive life.
Good luck.
