bleeding from nostril
Hello all,
In April of this year I did an LD on my mare. At the vet check, we noticed
a small amount of blood coming from her right nostril. It was definitely
coming internally, not due to an external cut, and the vet was not alarmed,
but noted it (as did I!!). THis was the first time that this had happened.
The vet said was due to a small vessel breaking during the exercise. THe
bleeding stopped at the vet check, and never bled again.
Yesterday, I did a 15 mi ride, and about 1 hour after the ride, she had a
bloody nose, same side as in April. There was slightly more bleeding than
before, but still was not really putting out much blood. Again, it was from
an internal source. Cleaned her up, and it bled on and off again for a few
minutes, then stopped. Several hours later, I cchecked on her again, and
no blood at all.
Is this something that I should be more concerned about? Since this is the
second time this has happened, is that telling? I am moving her up to 50
mi this year, but both times that the bleeding occured, we had done less
than 25 mi. Is the delay to onset of bleeding after exercise that occured
yesterday significant of anything?
Would appreciate your thoughts and comments.
