Re: Carbs

My QH (who looks like he has some TB in him) was considered a hard keeper
when I bought him. In that prior life, he was a show/jumper who spent most
of his his time in a stall or paddock.

I bought him in the fall and moved him on November 1st to a farm where he
is on good pasture 23 hours a day (in his stall twice daily for grain).
The farm owner/manager took one look at him and said "Got to get some
weight on him for the winter; if he were to get sick, he'd need it."

We didn't get much weight on him that winter, but by late spring no one was
calling him a hard keeper anymore. His weight is perfect, though if we
manage to do the kind of mileage I dream of he'll need more calories.

He just needed to be on grass, and since he was moved in the late fall, he
had time to adapt safely.
