We never worried about soaking have for my old App - he'd d it himself!
My old App would carefully walk a large mouthful of hay to the nearest
trough to soak, eat a bit that was already in there. Then... get
another chunk of hay, walk over, dunk in water, eat previously soaked
hay...
He definitely knew how to take care of himself!
