Presenting a horse so as to maximize possibilties for BC
The head vet at the Lil Schmidt gave a High Vet Score prize cuz she said
she likes to do that as, "there are ways of presenting a horse so as to
maximize the chances for BC." So I take it the two aren't quite the same,
at least not in her estimation.
What is the difference?
In what ways can one 'present' a horse for a best shot at the BC? She also
commented that a certain rider always presented her horse very, very well.
How?
I can immediately think of having the horse stand like a rock and behave
perfectly so as to make a good impression.
I know that a light willing trot out is impressive (at the end of a lead
with little interference from handler so as to show off the horse's
willingness, impulsion and soundness). Vet and onlookers commented on how
well Riff did this. Jolly good thing, he's just finished stepping on the
animal tech's toes who was kindly volunteering at P&R. Argh. My
apologies, again!
What else? Calm and matter of fact attitude in the young filly who won
high vet score impressed the vet enough for a public comment-is that
universally impressive or are some vets o.k. with highly energized horses
as long as they behave reasonably?
