Re: community water tanks.



We usually have a community tank here for the rides.  In fact, have had one
on everyride I went to.......No problems developed but I sure see the
potential.  Guess I will look at it differently from now on...Glad there
was an update with info that can help prevent this from happening again.

The same transmission of a virus at a community water tank happened about
15
years ago on a local wagon train.  Over 300 horses were sick in a couple of
days.  Since the train goes from town to town and needs water, often
supplied in big tanks by the local fire department, they instituted the
rule
of having "Clean" buckets supplied at the tank and making everyone dip from
the tank into their own bucket.  It works.  Endurance rides with tanks do
the same thing.  Sure prevents a lot of sick horses.
