Re: Axle alignment
I have had MANY instances of tires cupping on a horse trailer. I eventually took it to a big
truck alignment shop. Impressive equipment....but, alas, it was absolutely correct. BUT, they
did discover that the wheel bearings were loose. Didn't take but a simple turn of a wrench to
tighten. I have also found that tires cup when you aren't religious about checking tire
pressure.
I tow a trailer 30,000 to 40,000 miles a year and have the bearings and brakes checked and
repair (if necessary) every 20,000 miles at MAX. I have saved a bundle by doing this. New
bearing/brake job can easily cost $500.
My local tire dealer also does alignment (not trailer) and brake jobs. They check my brakes for
FREE. EVERY fuel stop I check my tire pressure. I now get 50,000 miles or more out of my
trailer tires and brakes.
