splints

I have an 11 y.o.  Arab that recently popped a splint on a rear leg.  I can
only assume he did it while turned out and struck himself while playing.
Didn't notice it until bump appeared and he palpated sore.  Vet said Bute for
7 days, rest for 10 days and to apply DMSO/Dexamethosone mixture to splint
with toothbrush.  If not better (not palpating sore) in 10 days, UH-OH.  We're
at the UH-OH stage and I wanted to know what you ridecampers have experienced
with splints.  Waiting for the vet to call back.

Of course the weather has been great, I just bought a new Arabian Saddle Co.
saddle for him, and have been spending more than a year retraining him using
the John Lyons' methods.  It figures he would be unrideable!!  Anyone who
would like to attend my pity party please e-mail me.
