Well, probably has to do with where you live and what the
water supply is like. We don't have water troughs on rides,
plenty of water in streams/lakes along the way.
A sponge works well for me. Getting off would generally
mean standing in the water myself. Have done that, but
prefer not to soak my boots....
At vet checks, people have our own containers, I usually
have a muck tub for sponging and a couple of buckets
for drinking. I use the scoop there also, but not usually
on trail.
