Pulling back or sitting back usually means the horse is not truly halter
broke.  I have a similar problem with a 7 year old gelding.  I've found that
using a bicycle innertube to ty to (or a bungee type trailer tie), greatly
reduces incidents of sitting back.  If the horse has done it more than once,
he/she expects the support of the end of the line, but a stretchy tie foils
that expectation--there is no "end".  They seem less interested when they
realize they must support themselves or lose their balance.  In the best of
all worlds, however, we should be teaching them to give to pressure, not flee
from it.
