Re: Trouble finding reliable farrier : (
Guess I'm the only one on the list who has a RELIABLE farrier. Maybe it has
something to do with that it's a "she" who is doing what she's doing because
she loves it. She's about 5ft and 90lbs and I consider myself very lucky to be
one of her customers. I first met her when we were looking for a gaited horse
farrier for my friends Fox Trotter. The horse had a pretty short stride
(after a number of farrieres had tried to "fix" his gait) and she encouraged
to pull the shoes and let him go barefoot. He improved imidiatly and all he
needs now is a trim twice a year.
She's been doing her job I think for about 15 years and it's her life. Her
truck looks like a showcase and she's the only farrier I've ever met who does
not complain, wether it's about back pain or work or live in general. She will
call me if I forget about scheduling an appointment. And she's wonderfully
patient with my 2 Arabs who both unfortunatly have a history of abuse (one is
just overly sceptic of people and the other one used to not let anyone touch
his legs. The previous owner had him sedated before every trim...He's now
accepting to have shoes nailed to his feet!). She's never in a rush and takes
a lot of pride in her work. She's also more expensive than most other
farrieres (didn't someone say it's a matter of money...) Since I'm her only
"Endurance-Client" we ran into a few problems in the beginning, mostly that
the shoes would come off too easily. But she's very eager and willing to learn
and recently we havn't had any problems with loosing shoes anymore.
What else could I ask for?!
