Free choice electrolytes

Has anyone experimented with free choice E's? During multi-day Field 
Trials,I have squooged a dose of a flavored from-the -tube E onto the 
small trace mineral salt block I travel with.He never touches it,even  
after some very sweaty days. He will chew off a bit of salt sometimes.I 
used to do a free choice experiment with a water-E solution alongside 
another bucket of plain water(as mandatory anyway),and he did drink 
that,but I'm not sure he really wanted the E's;may have just drank some 
from each bucket because it was there.
